Project Overview

A Danish advertising agency approached Pixels2Pixels Studio to create a fun and engaging 3D commercial featuring animated Behaton tiles with expressive faces. The goal was to develop realistic yet stylized character animations while ensuring easy adaptability for multiple languages without redoing the entire animation process.

To achieve this, we created two high-quality 3D models of Behaton tiles, applied facial animation using real-time face capture, and refined the performances inside Maya to deliver smooth, expressive, and natural-looking character motion.

Our Approach

3D Modeling & Character Design

• Designed two fully detailed 3D models of Behaton tiles, ensuring realistic textures and shading.
• Created character face rigs capable of supporting expressive animations.

Facial Animation via Motion Capture

• Used an iPhone Front Camera App for real-time facial motion capture, mapping live facial expressions onto the 3D tile characters.
• Captured natural lip-sync, emotion, and micro-expressions to bring the characters to life.

Polishing & Refinement in Autodesk Maya

• Imported motion capture data into Maya for manual cleanup, smoothing, and additional expression enhancements.
• Fine-tuned mouth shapes and eye movements, ensuring fluid, precise animation quality.

Multi-Language Adaptability

• By using motion capture, we made it easy to swap out facial animations for different languages, allowing quick localization without reanimating from scratch.

Final Rendering & Compositing

• Rendered the final scenes with polished lighting and shading, ensuring high visual quality.
• Used After Effects for final compositing, color grading, and motion adjustments.

Results & Impact
